Cran Canaria

22 Jan

Since our arrival a Big Burd Island(aka Grand Canary), we have firstly gone to Sailor's Bay, complete the check-in procedure, for some beer and Pizza. With that out the way, the next order of business was to get our first aid kit. Phil kindly collected it last friday and was waiting on us for instructions..  We were about to provide Phil with the address so he could send the thing, when we discovered(by speaking to a boat that had been waiting for over two weeks) that the local customs people were extremely sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow at processing parcels for transient boats and Phil separately discovered that the earliest that the courier  could get us the kit would be monday..

Plan B - we get one of the crew members to fly to Gib and pick it up.. Michal kindly offered to do the trip, so we bought the tickets and he set off.. He left on Tuesday 13h00, arrived in Seville expecting a regular bus or train service - wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrong! Only one bus and that left at 23h00.. So he wisely took that one. Phil had been waiting up at 23h00 for Michal as we expected him to arrive at 21h00 and called as to his whereabouts.. That was when we discovered Micahl's travel woes.. He finally arrived at 01h30 on Wed. On a cold and rainy Wed morning Phil met Michal at 06h45 and Michal then proceeded on his return journey.  He arrived at 15h00 on Wed, with the (lots of adjectives) first aid kit. A big thanks to Phil for his patience and his help.

Adventure Medical kit 3000 (be impressed)
Aside from finally taking possession of the first aid kit, we were awaiting the arrival of our new crew member, Chris all the way from Nam(ibia).

With all this going on, we were kept busy with, doing minor maintenance on the boat (yes it is possible), washing and cleaning the boat, re-fit the repaired main sail.

On Thursday, we would say good bye to Michal who was heading to Brasil, to volunteer at the Olympics. A big thanks to Michal for his help and the mission to retrieve the first aid kit.

We would also be joined by Daniel (German) and Julie(France).

Almost the UN
On Friday, we did our final provisioning run and are now ready to set off... Tomorrow we will set off to the South of the Island for a short day sail and also wait out the lack of wind forecast for late Saaurday early Sunday...

That is all for now.
